money Depositphotos 1015220 xs 150x150 Blog Design Part 2 While most companies that offer free blog hosting offer pre-selected templates, there are also some which allow customization which, if used correctly, can increase your blog’s traffic. Here are a few tips to make your blog stand out from the millions of blogs out there that have standard designs.

Customize the Banner

The banner usually has the most generic designs that are common to the blogs from a blogging company or service. You can personalize this banner by having a graphic with the dimensions of the banner. You can also edit the graphic so that it includes the title of your blog. In this case, you can create your own graphic or you can purchase professional looking graphics online for less than $10. Check out Logo Creator with which you can create blog graphics, page headers, Facebook timeline images, etc. and you get 200 “ready made” templates to get your creative juices going.

Personalizing Photos

Of course, most of the photos that you will be posting will be your own. However, if you don’t customize the photos before posting them, you may miss maximizing the enhancing benefits graphics can add to the page.  Adding photo borders can help the photo stand out from the page.  It can also add to the design of your blog. You can choose a standard border or you can also create your own border which can be associated with your blog’s templates. A software program that can help you create dazzling graphics is called Social Graphics Pro and I have found it to be very easy to learn and use (look under Tools for Coaches and you’ll find it near the bottom of that page). This is MUCH LESS expensive than a program like Photoshop and MUCH, MUCH SIMPLER to use.

Add a Favicon

Do you think sites with icons on the address bar before the website’s URL are cool? Many people do. Favicons add a professional look to the URL. These are simple to do using photo or graphic editing software. Google blog templates, layouts, backgrounds, textures and skins to see what will fit your blog. There are sites that offer free blog templates, layouts, backgrounds, textures and skins. You can use these so your blog doesn’t look generic like most of the blogs hosted by the service provider.

Include RSS Feeds

This is a cool way to inform people with newsreaders about your blog headlines. Tutorials on RSS feeds are available on the internet.

Audio makes your blog more personal

Not only will audio personalize your blog, it can also keep your visitors coming back. You can try having streaming radio stations, mp3 files or playlists loading with your blog.

If you have signed up with Google AdSense, be sure the ads are conveniently placed so they don’t hinder your readers’ accessibility to the other information on your blog. Try using these tips and I bet you’ll increase and retain traffic on your blog.

P.S. You might want to check out Image Monthly which is an inexpensive monthly subscription that can help you be more confident about using graphics on your blog and make your content look great! P.P.S. Another product you may be interested in will help you create infographics. It is called Instant Infographics Presence. The Importance of Blog Design

Blogs have increased in popularity over the last few years. Many people have started to create their personal blogs to express their thoughts and feelings. Internet companies have also started blogs to inform consumers about their latest products, contests, and events.

Because of this popularity, blogs are also being used as internet marketing media. Before, internet marketing was done by placing banners and links on popular websites, such as news and information sites. Links were also included on newsletters and marketing letters sent to the members of their mailing lists.

Many people spend time reading blogs. People read their friend’s blogs, their favorite author’s blogs, blogs on topics that they are interested in, and blogs with product reviews. With the increasing popularity of blogging, some fear people will rely on blogs to get the latest news. While getting news reports from blogs isn’t reliable, some people look for product reviews through blogs. In some cases, this is more dependable. While it’s true that some media people are paid to write good reviews about a certain product, blog writers write about their actual experiences on products and services from a company. Blogs are a good medium to market a product. Increasing blog traffic means increasing product sales.

Blog traffic can be increased by joining affiliate programs and sites which will list your blog under a certain search category or name. You can also have your blog advertised in popular websites. This, however, will cost some money and is not advisable if you have just started blogging.

A writer who has just launched his/her blog will want as much traffic as possible to increase advertisements on the site. Also, some advertisers pay every time their link is clicked or the page that has their link is viewed. When you have increased traffic on your blog, you should try to keep your visitors coming back and recommending your blog to friends and colleagues.

This can be done by having informative or amusing content and good blog layout and design. You may develop your blog’s content yourself or you might hire the services of a web content writer to provide you with blog articles. Stay tuned for Blog Design, Part 2, coming soon!

QA webinar Questions on WordPress?

I wanted to tell you about this free Q & A WordPress webinar hosted by Angela Wills. It takes place on Tuesday, April 2, at 12 PM ET. If you have questions on WordPress, this is a great opportunity to get them answered!

Learning WordPress for your small business can put you in control of your marketing and give you the ability to create new business offers when needed.

Here are a few benefits when using the WordPress blogging platform:

1. Easy and Quick Installation – If you have a web hosting company that offers an option in your control panel called Fantastico De Luxe, you can easily install WordPress on your website. My website has been hosted for several years with Bluehost and they offer Fantastico De Luxe.

2. Website Themes – There are many free WP (WordPress) themes available to choose from.

3. Website Plugins - There are almost 8,000 WordPress plugins on the website ( ), and thousands more that are not in the WordPress database. Plugins allow easy modification, customization, and enhancement to your WordPress blog. When you find a plugin you want, just download, unzip, and upload it to the plugin directory on your blog. After uploading a plugin, go to the Admin area of your blog to activate the software.

4. Self-Updating – WordPress will inform you if upgrades are available for the basic WordPress operating system and your WP plugins. When upgrades are available, you will be notified, and often you only need to click a link to automatically install the upgrades and updates.

Remember, if you have any questions at all about WordPress, click here to sign up for the free Q & A WordPress webinar.
